INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (Class – IX)

Aim of any education is to help a student lead a happy and satisfied life. For this, many factors contribute – vocation being one of them. Preparing a student for vocation right from school-age has its own merits.
The subject “Information Technology” (code 402) is one of them. This book is strictly based on class IX CBSE syllabus for the same subject – “Information Technology” (code 402). This book is divided into two parts : Part A and Part B.
Part A : Employability Skills aims at imparting basic skills required for employability, which include communication skills, self-management skills, basic ICT skills, entrepreneurial skills and green skills. The Part A is common to all vocational subjects. Part A has been divided into five units.
Unit 1: Communication Skills comprises of fifteen sessions that talk about basic communication skills, what communication comprises of as a whole, and basic English skills.
Unit 2 : Self-management Skills comprises of four sessions that are dedicated to the discussion of various things required for self-management, such as knowing own strengths and weaknesses, self-confidence and positive thinking, and personal hygiene and self-grooming.
Unit 3: Basic ICT Skills comprises of seven sessions and covers topics like basics of a computer system and a mobile system ; input, output, memory and storage devices ; working on operating systems (Windows, and Linux), Internet, its applications and services.
Unit 4 : Entrepreneurial Skills comprises of four sessions and talks about what entrepreneurship is, types of entrepreneurship, comparison with employment and entrepreneurship development process.
Unit 5: Green Skills comprises of four sessions and talks about impact of natural environment on us, qur influence on rnatural environment, natural resource conservation, green economy and green skills.
Part B: Vocational Skills aims at imparting basic vocational skills related to the use of IT and computers. Part B has beem divided into three units :
Unit 1: Word Processing covers elementary word processing skills with a word processor Open Office Writer. This unit is divided in four sessions.
Unit 2 : Spreadsheet Applications covers elementary spreadsheet working with a spreadsheet application Open Office Calc. This unit is divided into five sessions.
Unit 3: Presentation covers basics of presentation making with Open Office Impress saftware. This unit is divided into five sessions.
